Does the surface of the FRP mold have to be ground and polished?
This is not absolute.
However, after the mold gel coat is water-milled, the smoothness is relatively much higher, even if you don't pursue a high-gloss product surface, it is worth recommending.
In many cases, especially for the molds of post-painted parts, the reason why careful treatment is also recommended is that the time for repairing the mold is far more affordable than repairing each product.
If you pursue high-gloss FRP products, then you need to do these two points!
The gloss of the product will never be better than the state of the mold surface, which is an irreversible fact. Even if the mold state is perfect, the intermediate release layer will reduce the gloss of the product. Whether it is a release agent or a release wax, transfer is inevitable. Therefore, in pursuit of high-gloss product effects, you need to start from the following two points at the same time, so that the product may not be too bad.
First, the mold is carefully ground and polished
This is not difficult to understand, the surface state of the mold is proportional to the finish of the product. For FRP molds, at least 1500 mesh and above water grinding is required, and then a high degree of polishing is required to obtain a relatively good mold surface effect.
Second, switch to a semi-permanent demolding system for two purposes: multiple demolding and low transfer
For products, a complete mold release system, including mold cleaner, sealer and mold release agent, is used in combination, rather than a single mold release agent. Be careful not to trust those so-called zero-transfer release agents, which are mostly just a means for businesses to fool customers.
