What is FRP?
Some people may think that FRP is a kind of glass with the characteristics of steel.
In fact, strictly speaking, this is not glass.
Fiberglass composition
Generally, FRP refers to a material composed of resin and glass fiber, referred to as FRP, which is generally called composite material abroad.
Personally, "glass fiber reinforced plastic" is a popular image name.
The fibrous glass is the reinforcing material that constitutes the FRP material. Various ores are smelted to form liquid glass. After drawing and cooling, a certain flexible glass fiber filament is obtained instead of a brittle and fragile glass form. After the glass fiber is infiltrated, chopped or woven with a coupling agent, the glass fiber fabrics of different shapes are combined with resins with different properties to meet the needs of different glass fiber reinforced plastic manufacturing.
Steel can be simply understood as "hard", combined with reinforcing materials, perhaps this is the reason for the name "glass fiber reinforced plastic".
glass fiber
There are many types of resin-based reinforcing materials, such as carbon fiber, aramid fiber and so on. Even any material can be used for the reinforcement of FRP, such as balsa wood, paper honeycomb and other sandwich materials, and a lightweight FRP product with a "sandwich" structure can be obtained.
So, if someone asks again: What is FRP, or what is FRP?
It can no longer be explained simply with glass, it should be "composite material" more appropriate. But in China, it is still as the locals do, and it is mainly called "glass fiber reinforced plastic".
